{"id":29463,"date":"2021-09-11T12:37:23","date_gmt":"2021-09-11T12:37:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/indundi.com\/?p=29463"},"modified":"2021-12-27T19:24:34","modified_gmt":"2021-12-27T19:24:34","slug":"burundians-who-have-been-killed-and-thrown-into-common-graves-in-mwaro-province-will-be-known-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indundiculture.com\/magazine\/burundians-who-have-been-killed-and-thrown-into-common-graves-in-mwaro-province-will-be-known-soon\/","title":{"rendered":"Burundians who have been killed and thrown into common graves in Mwaro province will be known soon."},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">On Wednesday<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, 8<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">th<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> September 2021, the national commission for truth and reconciliation la<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">unched a campaign intending to identify<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> common graves of the victims of the atrocities that befell Burundi in 1972, in the locality of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Mwaro<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The activities saw the participation of different<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> personalities, beg<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">inning with the Governor of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Mwaro<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> province, local administrat<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ors<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, citizens of the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Mwaro<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> area and surroundings. The activities took place in <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Rusaka<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> commune of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Mwaro<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> Province, where one common grave has already been discovered.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">In his opening speech, the governor of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Mwaro<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> province invited the citizens and all <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">stakeholders to be cooperative<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">and help the Commission to know and communi<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">cate the truth on<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">the killings of 1972, by disclosing<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> all the common graves that they may be aware of.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">In his message, Ambassador Claver <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Ndayicariye<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, the Chai<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">r<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">man of the commission for truth and reconciliation reiterated that only trut<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">h will set families free, preventing the perpetrators from<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> bequeath<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ing<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">this yoke to their families or descendants. Ambassador <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Ndayicariye<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> invited the authors of the killings still living, to ask for forgiveness to both God and the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">families of victims, as a way of securing their peace of mind<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">With regard to some rumours and assumptions that the Commission displays the remains taken from ordinary <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">cemeteries<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Ndayicariy<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">e<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> explained that strategy has<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> been taken to avoid such assumptions. These strategi<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">e<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s consist in exhuming the remains in the presence of<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> eyewitnesses to ensure that people and the world get the right information about the Commis<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ion\u2019s work and achievements.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The activities<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> ended with the registration for participants<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> with more than 60 years of age, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">who may have witnessed the horrible happenings, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">the intention being to invite them for testimony<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> in future proceedings of the commission<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Amb.
