World Bank Pledges Continued Support to Burundi for Inclusive Economic Growth

This Wednesday, September 28th, 2022, the President of the Republic, HE Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, received in his office Ntare House, the Director of Operations at the World Bank Mr. Albert G.Zeufack who reaffirmed, during this audience, the commitment of this bank to work without respite to support Burundi, in order to reach an inclusive economic growth.

The Director of Operations at the World Bank said that the bank expresses the need to accompany the implementation of some reforms undertaken by the Burundian government, as well as the regular monitoring of projects and programs supported and financed by itself, which will help achieve the objectives of the National Development Plan.

Mr. Albert G. Zeufack revealed that the World Bank portfolio has increased significantly over the last 3 years (about 1.1 billion dollars), to accelerate the implementation of economic development projects in Burundi. To this end, they exchanged on ways and means to support in particular the areas of road infrastructure, agriculture and livestock, environment, transport, energy, industry, ICT, especially with regard to the digitization of public services,…

The President of the Republic has indicated that Burundi is entering a phase of reform of all socio-economic sectors. It is high time that Burundi is equipped with industries of transformation of natural resources and agricultural products that generate foreign currency. “We need a start-up capital to set up industries of transformation of our natural resources, given that our country abounds in a lot of economic potentialities to recover”, he indicated.
