The Kayanza High Court sentenced the three women to five years in prison and a fine of 5 millions each. If they are unable to pay the fine, they will serve another year in prison to make up for the breach.
This was pronounced by the High Court of Kayanza in a trial session on August 23, 2022. The public prosecutor in Kayanza called the three women to appear with four men, who are accused of planning the sale of these minerals to Rwanda, through these women, on the night of August 21 of this year. They are all from the Kabarore Commune of the same province.
The 3 women admitted the charge and the 4 men were sentenced to 10 years in prison with a fine of 10 millions each, with an additional year if they fail to pay the fine. The Kayanza High Court ordered the 51 kg of coltan to be handed over to the relevant authorities to be sold legally and the money put into the state coffers.
