The citizens of Bujumbura enjoyed the RUN BUJA, a marathon organised by the Nigerian Embassy in Burundi. This took place this saturday, october 1st, 2022 at Intwari stadium in Bujumbura. The event coincided with the celebration of 62 years of independence for Nigeria.
The run covered a distance of 10.5 km for both men and women and the first ten candidadtes got prizes on both sides.
On men’s side, the three first places were taken by :
1) Arakaza Elyse from Bujumbura (32’28’59)
2) Niyomwungere Désiré from Bururi ( 32’36’12)
3) Nimubona Patrick from Bujumbura ( 32’44’31).
On women’s side, the first three places were taken by :
1) Ndayikengurikiye Violette ( 39’ 51’ 13)
2) Nintije Odile ( 41’23’14)
3) Habonimana Dancile ( 42’05’77)
With regard to prizes, the Winners (man and woman) got one million each, the second ones received 750000 while the third ones were given 500000 BIF.
The participants appreciated this initiative, reiterating that such events can booster the athletic spirits among young Burundians who can go on and become international athletes.
