The Burundi’s First Lady health-related projects to be extended to the EAC

As the Secretary General of the East African Community visited Burundi this Tuesday, August 23, 2022, he visited the office of Burundi’s First Lady for Development. Among other topics, they exchanged on the extension of the scope of Burundi’s First Lady health-related projects to the East African Community.

The first step would be the organization of a high level meeting of East African Community First Ladies and other high profile women leaders in order to discuss the improvement of mother-child health, women’s well-being and youth development. It will also be a good opportunity to explore the possibility of creating a First Ladies’ Network at the regional level, as indicated by Dr Jean Bosco Girukwishaka, executive secretary at the African First Ladies Organization for Development (OPDAD) in Burundi.

As for the Secretary General of East African Community, he congratulated the First Lady on the great works she is realizing for mother-child health improvement. He indicated that the East African member states would benefit from such activities and invited the First Lady to extend her projects to the region.
