Ambassador Shingiro appreciates the efforts of the Diaspora to develop the country

At the opening of the week dedicated to the Burundian Diaspora, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation in his attributions made a point of thanking the Diaspora for its tireless involvement in development activities in Burundi. He recalled that the invitation launched by the government of Burundi to various Burundians residing and working in other countries is a clear sign of the importance that the country gives to the Diaspora.

The Diaspora Week is organized annually since 2014 except in 2020 when the activity did not take place due to travel restrictions caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. This sixth edition comes at the right time because Burundi has made great progress in development cooperation with other countries and international organizations that had unjustly imposed sanctions on Burundi for defending its sovereignty.

For this reason, the government has put in place new policy based on economic diplomacy, which includes five principles :

Attracting foreign investors to invest in Burundi

Multiplying trade exchanges

– Invest in technology transfer

Improve and exploit the tourism sector

– To engage in major development projects in accordance with the National Development Plan 2018-2027.

He also explained that the choice of the last week of July for this event is not a coincidence. It is an opportunity offered to the diaspora to participate in facilitating the day of the communes celebrated annually during the week of August.

He then encourages these compatriots to keep this spirit of patriotism and take advantage of the various platforms available to facilitate the realization of projects of the diaspora in Burundi.
