The Burundian President HE Evariste Ndayishimiye proceeded, this Monday, September 4, 2022, to the official launch of the Festival of Arts and Culture, Jamafest. The ceremonies took place at the Intwari Stadium in Bujumbura.
Accompanied by the First Lady of Burundi, the current Chairman of the EAC first visited the stands of the different countries of the East African Community along the Boulevard de l’Uprona before heading to the Intwari Stadium where he was welcomed with a standing ovation by different delegations.
In his opening speech of the 5th Edition of the festival, President Ndayishimiye indicated that this festival offers the opportunity to exchange and share artistic and cultural experiences, which can promote social cohesion and unity within the East African Community.
Thanking his counterparts from the Community of East African States for sending different artistic and cultural groups to peaceful and hospitable Burundi, the EAC Chairman wished the participants of this festival a good stay in the heart of Africa and encouraged them to proudly exhibit their cultures and learn from others with interest.
The Deputy Secretary General of the EAC in charge of productive and social sectors Honorable Christophe Bazivamwo appreciated the presence of the Burundian Head of State at the ceremonies marking the 5th Edition of the Jamafest Festival whose theme is: “Harnessing cultural resources to mitigate the impact of COVID19 within the EAC”.
The Deputy Secretary General of the EAC ended his speech by thanking the Government and the people of Burundi for their legendary hospitality and for all the facilities granted to the various delegations.
